Frances Ridley Havergal SET

During the holidays, we made available a set of books by and about Frances Ridley Havergal. We still have some copies of these resources, so we have decided to continue selling them while supplies last. The entire set is $28.00 and may be purchased here. Below is our description of the set and review of its contents:

One of the great privledges of publishing books is the opportunity to introduce readers to special books and authors. We get the opportunity to effectively bring obscure works into greater prominence. It is our sincere prayer that, by offering these attractive books in this bundle for such a low price, you would purchase a set and come to know her tremendous worth as a Christian writer today.

Frances Ridley Havergal (1836-1879) has written several hymns which continue to be sung by Christians all over the world. But most do not realize that Havergal was far more than a hymnist. She was a prolific and talented poet, musician, and devotional writer—and beyond that she obviously lived the life with God that she so often describes in writing. In her own day, she was a widely read and beloved author. In fact, she was likely the only woman before the twentieth-century to have millions of her books sold while still alive. Unfortunately, her work is largely unknown today, except for the few hymns we still sing. An effort is underway to publish her complete works in five, massive volumes, but that is not yet ready. Until then, we do what we can to circulate her work, which is why we are offering this special collection of books from her.

This bundle features:

Ever, only, ALL for Thee: This is a paperback biography of Havergal written by Pamela Bugden. Bugden has done much work on the upcoming Complete Works of Frances Ridley Havergal, and so she was well-suited to write this biography. She draws on a variety of sources, including the personal letters of Havergal and of those who knew her. And since authors cannot be known apart from their writings, Bugden includes many examples of Havergal’s poetry, songs, and devotional writings. (Click here to see this book offered separately.)

Valuable Selections from the Writings of Frances Ridely Havergal: This is a 96 page paperback collection of some her poems, portions of letters written by and about her, chapters from devotional writings, and then some music scores. If you’re looking for something to read which is both simple and edifying, and maybe artistic, this collection will serve you well. Not all Christians like poetry, but those who do should really try out Havergal’s, as represented in this booklet. She mixes her great skill with biblical knowledge, probing questions, and deep worship. Also, not all Christians like short, devotional writings, but again Havergal’s are of a very high quality and are worth reading. (Click here to see this book offered separately.)

The Five Royal Books: While the above two books are permanent resources offered by Granted Ministries, this is a special resource offered only for a limited time while supplies last. The Royal Books are a five-piece set: My King, Royal Commandments, Royal Bounty, Royal Invitation, and Loyal Responses. Each is a devotional book for thirty-one days, the first four being prose, the last one being poetic. While they are not what we would call "children's books," and while they ought to be read by adults, Havergal actually did intend them primarily for older children. Our copies are small hardbacks of good-quality with beautiful covers. We are very pleased to offer this larger work by Havergal, and we hope readers will give it the attention it deserves.
