LEVEL 1

This is one of those rare books that stands the test of time. Ryle's "Thoughts for Young Men" has been imparting wisdom to readers for 150 years. We have never handed this book to anyone who did not warmly thank us after reading it. The format of the book is simple and straightforward, yet grandfatherly in tone. If ever a book made you feel that someone was putting their hand on your shoulders and tenderly but firmly exhorting you about important matters, this would be that book.

We are very pleased to finally be bringing this title to press. Our view is that the book is generally either poorly produced, or priced too high (not that the content is unworthy of a high price, but that a high price limits the freedom with which people can and will give the book to others). We've made the book to feel nice and hold up, yet the price is low enough that you should be able to pass them out.

Ryle's book unfolds along the following lines: First, he explains the various reasons young men are especially in need of exhortation. Second, he works through various dangers young men face. Third, he gives general counsel to young men. Fourth, he puts forward some general resolutions that will help young men in light of the material previously set forth.

If you don't know this book, don't pass it up!

“Thoughts for Young Men”, by J.C.Ryle, has proven its worth by changing the life and perspective of countless men and youth for nearly 150 years. The growing number of young men who have been helped by the book urge you to read what is contained within. The generation of men before you add their voice, likewise urging you to consider the weighty message. As you step into the world and assume the rights and responsibilities of full manhood, Ryleʼs “thoughts” will help you keep in the right trajectory. His intention is to come alongside you as an older man, as though a grandfather, and to offer you the advice you may not know you need. His words are clear, sharp, and powerful. They aim to instill in you the seriousness and the desire to overcome the difficult challenges of life with faith in God and a true commitment to live for Christ. In todayʼs pop-culture young men stand in great need of the sort of godly wisdom served up in this timeless book. Young men, these words are true. Suffer the word of exhortation. Be persuaded. Take up the cross. Follow Christ. Yield yourselves unto God! J. C. Ryle (1816-1900) was the first Anglican Bishop of Liverpool, and is widely regarded as having one of the most significant and impactful ministries of his generation. His works remain widely read today. He is affectionately referred to as “that man of granite, with the heart of a child” in a recent biography. We hope our publication of this small book has a part in producing a few more men of that description.
