Most western Christians view dating as a good and necessary part of growing up and getting married. Paul Washer fervently disagrees, as he argues in this compilation of teachings, given over three days at a church in Hannibal, Missouri. He points out that dating, as it is usually practiced, presents massive spiritual dangers and has caused much harm to countless Christians—whether they know it or not. In response, he argues that we should replace modern dating with practices based on biblical principles, such as parental authority and radical concern for purity.

Paul's teaching is certainly counter-cultural, and many would describe it as absurd, impossible, or antiquated. But those who have followed it—or similar teachings from other men—will testify not only that it works but also that it is better. This material is therefore wonderfully helpful for both parents and youth on the issue of dating. “Do not be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2).
